Annette and Friends

As Christmas approached, Annette felt the need to help those who may be alone over the holidays. She comes from a village in France where the inhabitants will share meals and prepare gifts for those who might be alone at Christmas, especially seniors.

Annette contacted Age Concern Wellington Region with the offer of gifts for lonely seniors. She rallied a few friends, and the team prepared dozens of beautiful gifts for some seniors who wouldn’t have received anything for Christmas otherwise. There was home baking, delicate flower bouquets, hand cream, books, and many other gifts. Kirsten Blyde, Connect Coordinator at Age Concern Wellington Region, brought the gits to a council housing coffee group for seniors.

For those lucky enough to receive these gifts, last Christmas became almost as magical as when they were children. One elderly lady said she couldn’t believe the gift was for her – she felt so touched that someone cared.

Thank you Annette and friends for your kindness and initiative! Pictured here are three of the team of five Christmas Elves: Kirsten, Annette and Janet (not pictured: Elaine and Rachel).
